Newly hatched Brecon Buff Goslings at Lammas

Ecovillage news

Lammas has just published its 5th Annual Monitoring Report. It is available to view from here

Basically it demonstrates that we have met the planning productivity targets.

HOORAY!

In 2014 the total 'household need' figure for Tir y Gafel was approximately £104,000

Approximately half of this (£52,000) was met directly through growing food, producing energy, etc.

Approximately £27,000 of land-based produce was sold.

Approximately £14,000 was brought in through educational/ land-based activities.

The site generated approximately £93,000 from land-based activity in 2014.

As a comparison - prior to purchase the site generated between £2,500 and £3,500 per year through the sale of lamb.

Insight into Lammas:

Photographer Jose came to live at Lammas for the summer of 2014. After a long wait he has now published his work in a collection of photographs, interviews and soundscapes. Click here for an intimate insight into the people of the Lammas Ecovillage.

Thoughts from Jasmine:

Wild cherry, dog rose and teasel cones frame my view to the left. Directly in front of me, i'm astonished by the vibrant blue of forget me nots that have made their home under the blackcurrants. To my right, in the greenhouse, i can see the hundred seedlings i am tending for our food this summer and to sell as part of my land based livelihood. This about sums up my life here as we enter our sixth Spring on the land of the river Gafel.

One part of me looks to the 1000s of trees and plants we have established so far; although still young, they now form a visible framework on this plot. One part of me is surpirsed on a daily basis by the appearance of life that has come here on its own terms, independently of me; flowers, birds, insects and moles. And the other part, raises plants, learns to be a food grower and to run a small business. Oh and of course while i'm writing this there is a student photographer documenting me, another dimension to life at lammas that runs through much of what happens here, disseminating and sharing ideas.

For Sale - Envirolet toilet

The toilet has never been used or even removed from its packaging.  It has been in storage for a couple of years so the box looks a little worn, but the contents are still as new, and all components are present.

It was purchased for the Community Hub, so we have two compost chambers. This doubles the capacity from 8 full time users (10 vacation users) to 16 full time users (20 vacation users). Upon completion of the build, however, it emerged that this particular model would not be appropriate since we are an off-grid project. We have since installed something similar and therefore have a genuine reason for sale.

We are asking for offers in the region of £2500. What we are offering here cost in excess of £5000 new, plus we payed import tax (the manufacturers are Canadian) so this is a real bargain!

The toilet can be collected in person or we can arrange for a courier to deliver.  We estimate that 2 pallets would be required, so delivery would be roughly £140.

The user manual for the toilet is available here

Payment on collection by bank transfer or cheque preferred.  If you have any questions or are interested please call Jacqui on 07875390885
